The Armoured Multi-Purpose Vehicle will serve as the foundation for future battlefield capabilities, equipped with modular upgrades and next-generation combat systems. This initiative not only enhances the versatility of the Armoured Multi-Purpose Vehicle, but also ensures it remains adaptable to evolving threats in modern warfare.

Strategic Investment in AMPV Technology

BAE Systems is committing internal investment funds to expand the AMPV’s capabilities by integrating rapid-deployment mission kits. These kits will feature advanced technologies such as counter-unmanned aerial system (C-UAS) capabilities, autonomous navigation, and unmanned turrets. The initiative supports the U.S. Army’s future battlefield needs by enabling faster adaptation and modular field upgrades.

Modular Design Enables Swift Adaptation

"The AMPV is a proving ground for the future of tracked ground combat," said Bill Sheehy, Ground Manoeuvre product line director for BAE Systems. "The brand-new platform is coming off a hot production line, and the proven hull is one of the most durable building blocks being delivered to the U.S. Army today. We're committed to working alongside other technology disruptors at a pace that enhances AMPV's capability options now, so it's available for Soldiers in a moment's notice."

Mission-Ready Kits to Enhance Combat Effectiveness

The modular capability kits will enable soldiers to conduct critical missions more effectively. These include:

  • Counter-UAS detection and targeting
  • Ground vehicle autonomy
  • Modular and unmanned turret systems

All of these will be integrated into the highly survivable and maneuverable Armoured Multi-Purpose Vehicle chassis, significantly improving mission readiness and on-the-ground flexibility.

Track Record of Innovation

Over the past two years, BAE Systems has demonstrated its commitment to innovation by integrating five different turreted prototypes onto the AMPV, including:

  • A Modular Turreted Mortar
  • A 30mm unmanned weapon system
These developments use a Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA), ensuring interoperability and scalability for future upgrades.

Collaborative Approach to Accelerated Development

"We have a lot of work ahead of us for what we've set out to do this year, but just like a formation operating on the battlefield, collaboration fuels success," Sheehy said. "This might not be a traditional approach to innovating for warfighters, but the AMPV isn't your average combat vehicle either."
