Identified through the BuiltWorlds Benchmarking Program, the solutions included on this year’s list demonstrate “excellence in one or more specific focus areas or categories,” said BuiltWorlds Senior Analyst Audrey Lynch. While many solutions may fit into several categories, solutions featured on the Field Solutions Top 50 List were placed, according to Lynch, in the categories where they are most frequently used by adopters.
Categorisation of Construction Technology Solutions
The list is divided into four primary categories and five subcategories:
- Workforce Management
- Site Logistics & Management
- Site Safety Management Solutions
- Reality Capture
- Progress Tracking & Analytics
- 360° Site Capture & Monitoring
- Photogrammetry & 3D Reality Models
- Laser Scanning & LiDAR
- Drones & UAV Software
Digital Transformation Trends in Field Operations
“Field solutions in construction have advanced significantly in recent years, driven by broader industry trends toward digitization, real-time data, and operational visibility,” said Lynch, noting increasing contractor demands for better user experiences, data insights, and integration capabilities. “The overall trend reflects a shift from experimentation to standardization, with firms moving beyond pilots toward more consistent and strategic use of digital field solutions.”
AI Integration and Smart Tools in Field Solutions
AI has begun to make a mark on field solutions technology. According to Lynch, some workforce management-related tools are now utilising AI to help with scheduling, while others are tracking worker fatigue or proximity to danger zones. Reality capture solutions also continue to innovate with AI that can spot mistakes between planned designs and what was built.
“Site management tools have gotten smarter, too, with features that help plan deliveries, manage cranes and gates in real time, and even simulate crew movements to avoid bottlenecks,” added Lynch. “For tools and equipment, it’s not just GPS anymore since systems can tell you if something’s about to break or if a battery’s running low.”
