Discovery of New Herbicidal Modes of Action
In just three years, Moa has discovered 80 new herbicidal modes of action using its advanced technology platforms. Several of these are already proving effective against tough weeds in field trials across the US, Canada, France, Spain, the UK, Australia, and South America.
Amplifier Molecules: A New Class of Crop Protection
Moa scientists have also identified novel “amplifier” molecules. While non-herbicidal on their own, amplifiers can potentially reduce the amount or concentration of agricultural herbicides farmers need, lowering environmental impact.
These amplifiers also open new possibilities for biological-synthetic hybrid solutions, paving the way for bioherbicides to play a greater role in weed control.
Partnership with Gowan
Moa’s first partner in this new category is the Gowan Company, a US agricultural solutions leader.
The agreement includes significant investment with upfront payments, milestone payments, and royalties. Together, the companies will develop a new amplifier for a specific active ingredient, addressing the global need for sustainable farming solutions.
Field Trials in Australia and the UK
A Moa amplifier is currently undergoing pilot field trials in Australia, where it is being tested against annual ryegrass (Lolium rigidum), one of the world’s toughest weeds.
Additional UK field trials are targeting cereal grassweeds, including Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum), where resistance to glyphosate has recently been discovered.
Driving Global Agricultural Innovation
- Virginia Corless, CEO of Moa Technology, said:
“We are excited to discover this entirely new category of weed control solutions to help solve a real and immediate problem for farmers and the environment globally.” - Laurent Cornette, Global Herbicide Asset Manager at Gowan, added:
“Together with Moa’s scientists, we’re pioneering innovative solutions for efficient weed control at minimal active ingredient rates, empowering farmers with sustainable tools for the future.”
A New Era in Crop Protection
This partnership between Moa and Gowan marks the beginning of a new era in crop protection innovation—combining science, sustainability, and agricultural expertise to deliver safer, more effective, and environmentally conscious solutions for farmers worldwide.
