How the S-312 Piezo Phase Shifter Works

The S-312 series integrates three long-life PICMA® piezo actuators, controlled through external analog amplifiers. These actuators can be activated simultaneously for pure piston motion or independently for tip-tilt functions using a 3-channel amplifier. Their analog voltage responsiveness ensures smooth, predictable displacement—e.g., a 10 V signal achieves ~1.5 μm movement out of 15 μm total range.

Customization and Integration Options

PI offers custom configurations of the S-312 piezo phase shifter, including closed-loop control via integrated sensors and varied form factors. Standard models include a 0.5-meter cable, with both pigtail and connectorized options to suit unique system requirements.

Compact Controller for Peak Performance

To ensure reliable operation, PI recommends the E-836 piezo amplifier, a compact, low-noise controller with:

  • Output range: –30 V to +130 V
  • 10× gain factor
  • Short-circuit, overcurrent, and thermal protection

This amplifier enhances system responsiveness and long-term stability, even in demanding lab or industrial conditions.
